Wood Fencing

Wood Fence Installation

Warm, solid and timeless — a wood fence still does the job better than anything for privacy and curb appeal. We build it straight and set it to last.

Home / Services / Wood Fence Installation

Wood is what most Hancock County yards were built for, and it’s what we’ve been building longest. A well-made wood fence gives you privacy, defines the property and adds real warmth to a yard that vinyl and metal can’t match. The catch is that a wood fence is only as good as the crew that sets it — posts that aren’t deep enough or spacing that’s off will show within a season.

Armitage Fence sets every post in concrete, keeps runs dead straight, and hangs gates that swing true and latch clean. We build board-on-board and shadowbox for full privacy, dog-ear and flat-top pickets, and the scalloped-top runs Greenfield homeowners love. Cedar or treated pine, six-foot privacy or three-foot picket, we’ll match it to your yard and your budget.

What we build

The Details

Built to stand up to Indiana seasons

Indiana throws freeze-thaw, wind and wet clay at a fence all year. That’s why post depth and drainage matter more here than the fence style. We dig below the frost line, set posts in concrete, and space pickets so the wood can breathe and shed water instead of trapping it. Done right, a wood fence gives you fifteen to twenty-plus years of good service.

We’ll walk your property line, talk through cedar versus pine, and give you an honest estimate on the spot. Repairs and section replacements are welcome too — if a storm took out a run, we can match it.

Good Questions

Frequently Asked

Should I choose cedar or treated pine?
Cedar naturally resists rot and insects and weathers to a soft gray, while treated pine costs less and holds up well when it’s sealed. We’ll walk you through the trade-offs for your budget during the free estimate.
How tall can my wood fence be?
Most residential privacy fence runs six feet. Greenfield and many Hancock County neighborhoods have height and setback rules, and some HOAs have their own — we build to code and can help you check before we start.
Do you tear out my old fence?
Yes. We remove and haul off the old fence as part of the job so you’re not left with a pile to deal with.
How long does a wood fence last here?
With posts set in concrete below the frost line and a coat of stain every few years, expect 15–20+ years from a quality wood fence in central Indiana.
